Day 1: Arrive Colombo
Day 1

Arrive Colombo

Land in Colombo, transfer to the hotel and settle in. Visit Gangaramaya Temple by Beira Lake and catch sunset over the city from Colombo Lotus Tower. Tip: keep today light after the flight — Colombo sightseeing compresses easily if you land late.

Day 2: Colombo to Sigiriya
Day 2

Colombo to Sigiriya

Morning stop at Independence Square, then the ~4hr drive north. Break halfway at Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO cave monastery with 2,000-year-old murals and Buddha statues. Arrive Sigiriya in the afternoon and check in for an early night. Tip: roads here wind through the Cultural Triangle — budget more time than GPS suggests.

Day 3: Pidurangala, Sigiriya Rock & Thalkote Lake
Day 3

Pidurangala, Sigiriya Rock & Thalkote Lake

Sunrise hike up Pidurangala Rock (20–30 min) for the best angle on Sigiriya itself. Climb the Lion Rock fortress mid-morning — frescoes, the Mirror Wall and summit palace ruins. End at the quiet Thalkote Lake viewpoint with both rocks in frame; kayak or canoe at sunset. Tip: Pidurangala at sunrise and Sigiriya mid-morning avoids the peak heat.

Day 4: Sigiriya to Nuwara Eliya via Bluefield Tea Factory & Ramboda Falls
Day 4

Sigiriya to Nuwara Eliya via Bluefield Tea Factory & Ramboda Falls

Drive south into the hill country past Kandy's outskirts. Stop at Bluefield Tea Factory in Ramboda for tasting and a look at production, then hike the steep stairway (20–30 min) to the close-up viewpoint of Ramboda Falls. Continue to Nuwara Eliya for the night. Tip: longest driving day of the trip — start early and treat the stops as stretch breaks.

Day 5: Nuwara Eliya & Horton Plains
Day 5

Nuwara Eliya & Horton Plains

An easy lakeside walk or boat ride on Lake Gregory in the cool mountain air, then an early start (park opens 6am) for the ~3hr round-trip hike across Horton Plains to World's End — an 880m escarpment drop — plus Baker's Falls. Tip: World's End clouds over by mid-morning, so this is a start-before-dawn day.

Day 6: Nuwara Eliya to Ella
Day 6

Nuwara Eliya to Ella

Drive to Nanu Oya station and ride a scenic stretch of Sri Lanka's famous hill railway toward Ella. See a train cross the century-old Nine Arches Bridge among the tea plantations, then climb Little Adam's Peak (10–15 min) for golden hour and explore Ella town by night. Tip: book the train ahead — hill-country seats sell out and schedules shift seasonally.

Day 7: Yala Safari & Transfer to Mirissa
Day 7

Yala Safari & Transfer to Mirissa

Early departure from Ella for a jeep safari in Yala National Park — leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles and birdlife. After the safari, continue to the south coast for the night in Mirissa. Tip: a long day combining drive, safari and transfer — a packed breakfast helps, and a single morning safari session leaves time to reach Mirissa before dark.

Day 8: Mirissa: Whale Watching
Day 8

Mirissa: Whale Watching

Early-morning whale watching cruise — blue and sperm whale season runs December through April — then a free afternoon on the beach. Tip: boats leave around 6:30am and seas can be choppy, so take motion-sickness precautions if needed.

Day 9: Beach Chill Day
Day 9

Beach Chill Day

A full free day in Mirissa — beach time, swimming, surfing or simply relaxing before the trip wraps up. Optional: a short tuk-tuk trip to Weligama or Galle Fort for a change of scenery.

Day 10: Bentota Beach Day
Day 10

Bentota Beach Day

Leave Mirissa after breakfast and head to Bentota for a full beach day — golden sand, swimming, or an optional Bentota River safari through the mangroves. Stay the night in Bentota and enjoy a relaxed seaside evening. Tip: this is the trip's wind-down day — no early starts, just the beach.

Day 11: Back to Colombo & Departure
Day 11

Back to Colombo & Departure

After a lazy breakfast, make the roughly 2.5hr drive back to Colombo. Depending on your flight time, squeeze in some last-minute shopping or a final meal in the city before transfer to the airport. Tip: ask your hotel for a late checkout in Bentota if your flight leaves at night.
